The right to use banknotes and coins will be enshrined in Switzerland's constitution after voters backed protecting the use of cash in a referendum on Sunday.

Preliminary official estimates showed that 69 percent of voters supported the legal change, which the government proposed in response to a similar initiative by a group called the Swiss Freedom Movement.
