The suspect in the attempted assassination attempt admitted who he actually wanted to shoot.
New details have emerged in the case of the shooting during an event involving US President Donald Trump. The suspect has admitted that he planned to attack administration officials.

The suspect has been identified as 31-year-old Cole Allen from Torrance, California. He was apprehended directly at the scene.
The incident took place at the Washington Hilton Hotel, where the annual dinner was being held. US President Donald Trump, the first lady, Vice President J.D. Vance, and members of the government, notably Treasury Department head Scott Bessent, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, FBI Director Kash Patel and other officials were in attendance.
Law enforcement sources said that the male detainee said after the incident that he planned to open fire on Donald Trump administration officials. His motives have not yet been officially disclosed.
Police said between five and eight shots were fired during the incident. The suspect was armed with a shotgun, a handgun and several knives and attempted to break through a security checkpoint at the entrance to the gym.
What is known about the attacker
Sources say Cole Allen worked for a tutoring company called C2 Education in Torrance. He received the December 2024 Tutor of the Month award.
It is also confirmed that Allen graduated from the California Institute of Technology in 2017.
After the incident, law enforcement officers conducted searches near a home that likely belongs to the suspect.
What charges he faces
D.C. District Attorney Janine Pirro said Allen is scheduled to be charged with using a firearm during a violent crime and assaulting a federal employee.
"From what we know at this point, it is clear that this individual intended to do as much damage as possible," she said.
The suspect is expected to be formally charged in federal court on Monday, April 27.
Reminder, on the night of April 26, during the White House Correspondents' Association dinner in Washington, shots rang out, after which Donald Trump was urgently evacuated from the hall.
