For bribery.
Two former Chinese defense ministers, 72-year-old Wei Fenghe and 68-year-old Li Shanfu, were sentenced to death with a two-year suspended sentence for bribery on May 7, Xinhua news agency reported.
Li Shanfu visited Minsk in August 2023, where he met, among others, with Lukashenko, who said that Minsk and Beijing's vision of the world order "fully coincide," writes "Pozirk".
Soon after his return from Belarus, he stopped appearing in public. In October 2023, it became known that the official had been suspended. In June 2024, the Communist Party of China announced the exclusion of the former military commander from its ranks for "disciplinary and legal violations" - Li Shanfu was accused of taking bribes and bribing others.
Deferred death penalty is a unique Chinese punishment in which the death sentence is postponed for two years, the convicted person is kept in prison, and forced labor is assigned. If during this period the defendant does not commit new intentional crimes, the execution is usually replaced by life or long-term imprisonment.
Belarus remains the only European country where the death penalty is applied.
