CNN: Israel Has Set Up A Network Of Secret Facilities In Several Countries For Operations Against Iran

Military and special services personnel were stationed in Azerbaijan and beyond.

While the war with Iran was going on, Israel secretly stationed its military and intelligence personnel in Azerbaijan and used a network of secret facilities in other countries in the region, CNN reported, citing four sources.

The channel said Israeli forces operated in several areas in southern Azerbaijan near the border with Iran. Some of these positions were allegedly about 100 kilometers from the Iranian city of Tabriz, which was hit by Israeli strikes during the conflict.

Sources say dozens of Israeli troops, including special forces, Mossad intelligence officers and elite search and rescue units, were stationed in Azerbaijan. They were engaged in reconnaissance, information gathering and drone operations.

The facilities in Azerbaijan were reportedly part of a network of secret Israeli military bases in several countries, including Iraq, the UAE and the unrecognized African state of Somaliland. Initially, the units stationed there were considered as possible emergency rescue teams, but later they were also used for military and intelligence tasks.

The Azerbaijani Embassy in the United States said it "strongly rejects unfounded allegations about the alleged use of Azerbaijani territory for operations against third countries."

Israeli authorities have not officially commented on the information.

In the meantime, according to CNN, cooperation between Israel and Azerbaijan is expected to continue in the near future. The countries maintain close military-technical ties: Azerbaijan supplies Israel with a significant portion of its oil, and Israel sells Baku advanced weapons and air defense systems.

The channel notes that the presence of such facilities allowed Israel to expand its ability to operate around Iran and support strikes against targets inside the country throughout the conflict.
