The dictator realizes that such a situation can be held for a long time, but as a result it can happen like with the Soviet Union - everything will collapse in one moment.

There are no signals yet that Putin is ready to freeze hostilities. At the same time, the overwhelming majority of the Russian elite is tired of the war and they openly talk about it.

According to the political analyst, judging by the way the situation is developing now, a pause in the war may look like this - Ukraine and Russia will sign an agreement on cessation of hostilities. That is, it will be a document to be signed by the military.

In an ideal scenario, based on real conditions, along the front line. However, it is likely that there will not be a large common document. Also, it is unlikely that Kiev will get security guarantees. And further, in fact, we are talking about a conditional "Minsk-3": when they shoot, but not often.

On what condition the war in Ukraine can end before the fall?

However, in order to do so, according to strategic communications specialist Yuri Bogdanov, the American president first needs to end the war in Iran, which he himself started.

Trump should also return full-fledged sanctions against Russia to the form in which they existed even before the Iranian war, and after that additionally put pressure on the Russian oil industry.

The US administration does have the tools to end the Russian-Ukrainian war, but to do so, it needs to realize that the main problem is actually Putin and start putting pressure on him. Then the war will end much faster than the fall, because Putin is weaker than ever.

He said that now many people in the US president's entourage are pushing him to put pressure on Putin.

How can the US "strangle" Putin's regime?

A former U.S. State Department official, David Tafuri, is convinced that a fair and reasonable agreement to end the war will not happen until Putin feels more vulnerable that he is losing on the battlefield and faces potential economic collapse. Part of that has to happen because of sanctions. However, a lot of work needs to be done to get Putin to that state.

- Trump promised he would end Russia's war against Ukraine in 24 hours, and later said he could do it in months. He tried to reach a ceasefire but failed to take into account the fact that this is only possible when the U.S. and European countries work together and cohesively to increase pressure on Russia. This is the only way to achieve a ceasefire," Tafuri said.

Pressuring Russia is the only thing that will force Putin to make the compromises that are necessary for a ceasefire that would be fair to the Ukrainian people.
