The plant is located 2000 kilometers from Ukraine.
On the afternoon of June 6, a fire broke out in Tyumen at a local oil refinery owned by Rusinvest LLC, the largest independent refinery in Russia and the only industrial refinery in the Urals Federal District, writes The Moscow Times.
According to the regional government, a refining system installation was on fire. Authorities assured that the cause of the emergency was a "violation of the technological process," and the information about a Ukrainian drone attack on the plant, which is about 2,000 kilometers from the border with Ukraine, allegedly "does not correspond to reality." Nevertheless, the fire was assigned a high level of danger and 80 people and 23 units of equipment were thrown to fight it.
According to footage from the regional department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the fire engulfed a two-section unit for hydrotreatment of diesel fuel with a total capacity of 3.6 million tons per year, writes Neftegaz.ru. The fire at the refinery, located near the Antipino microdistrict, was localized in a few hours, according to a report by Tyumen Governor Alexander Moor. "I keep the situation under personal control. All the circumstances of the incident will be established during the investigation," he wrote in his Telegram channel, adding that no one was hurt. The fire was extinguished at 15:20 local time, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported.
The Tyumen Refinery produces motor gasoline and diesel fuel of EURO-5 standard, BGS, LPG, as well as technical granulated sulfur, petroleum coke and a number of other products. According to Neftegaz.ru, various sources indicate different capacity figures for the Tyumen refinery - from 6 to 7.5 million tons per year.
The fire in Tyumen resulted in twice the permissible concentration of combustion products, dust and soot, writes Komsomolskaya Pravda, citing the atmospheric monitoring service IQAIR.com. According to analysts, with every hour the air quality in the city will get worse. Specialists advised Tyumen residents in health risk groups to reduce outdoor activities, close windows in dwellings, wear masks if possible and turn on air purifiers if available.
The previous attempt to hit the plant was recorded in October 2025. At that time, authorities claimed the elimination of three drones in the area of the refinery and "drone detonation" prevented by emergency services specialists. However, local residents reported explosions in the refinery area and fire crews heading there. In November, the authorities reported the decision to bring in reservists to protect critical facilities, primarily the refinery.
