Russians Quickly Put In Place After Provocation At Roland Garros Final

The guards were on alert.

Two Russians staged a provocation after the women's singles final at the French Open tennis tournament ("Roland Garros") by unfurling a banned Russian flag in the stands, celebrating the victory of "neutral" Russian Mirra Andreeva.

American journalist Ben Rotenberg wrote about it on his page in X, noted dialog.ua.

Security guards quickly intervened, however, forcing the intruders to hide the flag of the aggressor country.

- While Andreeva was celebrating her victory, two fans inside the court Chatrier pulled out and began waving a Russian flag to show support for Andreeva's country. A Roland Garros security guard quickly intervened and asked them to put the flag away in the man's purse," the report said.

Users in the comments noted that the punishment for the fans who pulled out the Russian flag should be harsher, and also expressed surprise as to why tennis associations allow Russian and Belarusian tennis players to participate in international tournaments despite Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine.

"Watching this made me wonder why tennis still allows Russian and Belarusian citizens to participate in competitions Why is tennis complicit in their appalling humanitarian crimes?"

It's just disgusting! Raising a flag like that is like saying you support war. They should have been kicked out for that. In any case, Glory to Ukraine!

Why don't they get them out and fine them?

This just proves that the idea of neutrality is a sham. These Russians don't have an ounce of shame that their country is continuing its genocidal war against Ukraine. That's why they should be banned completely if they don't condemn the war, condemn Putin and condemn Russia!" - they write in the comments.
