Kyrgyzstan Has Banned The Export Of Oil And Petroleum Products To EAEU Countries

Due to a fuel shortage in Russia.

The Kyrgyz government has imposed a ban on the export of oil and petroleum products to countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). This was reported on the website of the Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers.

The EAEU includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia. Ukrainian attacks on oil refineries in Russia have caused a fuel shortage. Russian authorities are imposing restrictions on the sale of gasoline and diesel fuel in the regions and in the occupied Ukrainian territories. As a result, residents of border areas have begun traveling to Kazakhstan to refuel their vehicles. In response, Kazakh authorities have set up about 60 checkpoints along the border with Russia to prevent the illegal export of fuel.

A ban on fuel exports from Kyrgyzstan was in place previously, but fuel could not be exported outside the EAEU. According to the amendments, the ban on fuel exports by road and rail now applies to EAEU member states. The decree does not specify a date; the ban will remain in effect “until the domestic market is saturated or common markets for oil and petroleum products are established” within the EAEU.

In addition, the government has suspended, until April 1, 2027, the provision of the decree that prohibited the import of oil and petroleum products in tanker trucks from China via Kyrgyz-Chinese checkpoints.
