The President of Ukraine has revised some of his personnel decisions.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy “took it in stride” the protests against the resignation of Mykhailo Fedorov as defense minister.

This is reported in an article by BBC News Ukraine, citing sources on Bankova Street.

They assured that “the president took both the rally and the fact that some people went to support Misha in stride.”

According to a source interviewed by the publication, it was precisely because Zelenskyy saw “this public reaction, as well as the best way to resolve personnel issues, that he changed some of his personnel decisions.”

Another source from the Office of the President speaking to BBC News Ukraine noted that Zelenskyy “does not feel any sense of competition or jealousy toward Fedorov.”

On July 16, Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukraine’s Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko is being considered as one of the candidates for the position of Minister of Defense to replace Mykhailo Fedorov.

“As for Klymenko, he is being considered as one of the candidates. He is being considered, but I have not yet submitted the relevant documents to parliament. After all, as you know, separate votes are held for the defense minister and the foreign minister,” Zelenskyy said.

According to FT journalist Christopher Miller, there are currently not enough votes in the Verkhovna Rada to appoint a new defense minister to replace Fedorov.

Subsequently, the president announced that he had instructed the acting head of the SBU Yevhen Khmara to serve as Ukraine’s acting defense minister.
