Z-blogger Ilya Remeslo Was Detained In Russia

He openly criticized Putin.

Russian propagandist and Z-blogger Ilya Remeslo has been detained. The state news agency TASS reported this, citing law enforcement sources. His attorney Sergey Badamshin confirmed Remeslo’s detention to the agency and clarified that he is being taken to Moscow to have a pretrial measure determined—the blogger lives in St. Petersburg.

On March 18, Remeslo published a post on his Telegram channel listing the reasons why he had stopped supporting Vladimir Putin. He criticized the high number of casualties in the war, the damage to Russia’s economy, the “stifling of internet and media freedom,” as well as Putin’s long tenure in power and his refusal to listen to voters’ opinions.

The next day, the blogger was admitted to a psychiatric clinic, according to unconfirmed reports from the Telegram channel Mash—which is close to security forces—“at the request of third parties.” Remeslo was released from the clinic on April 17. In an interview with Ksenia Sobchak, he stated that he was taken to the psychiatric clinic with police involvement.
