The count is in the tens.
For the first time since the start of Russia’s full-scale war, Ukraine’s Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War has disclosed the number of Belarusian citizens who fought on Russia’s side and were taken prisoner by Ukraine, according to "Svaboda".
“As of July 2026, there are 22 Belarusian citizens being held in prisoner-of-war facilities in Ukraine. Since 2022, seven Belarusians, who also held Russian citizenship, have been exchanged for Ukrainian citizens held in Russian captivity,” — said Bogdan Akhrimenko, head of the secretariat of the Coordination Headquarters , in response to an official inquiry.
At the same time, Bogdan Akhrimenko did not answer the question of whether the Belarusian authorities had approached Ukraine regarding the release of the Belarusians and, if so, in what format.
Previously, the exchange of Belarusian citizens took place as part of Russian-Ukrainian exchanges held on Belarusian territory.
Previously, the website Charter97.org reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had killed a Belarusian man from Glubokoye.
