The Energy Sector In Crimea Is Under Attack Again

Satellite images showed the aftermath.

A new nighttime attack on occupied Crimea on the night of July 5 targeted energy infrastructure facilities. Against the backdrop of these strikes, satellite images reveal another trend that is becoming increasingly noticeable.

This was reported by the Telegram channel Exilenova+.

On the night of July 5, several energy infrastructure facilities in occupied Crimea came under attack.

According to preliminary data, two power substations were attacked, and a comparison of satellite images from the past year shows a significant reduction in nighttime lighting on the peninsula.

Energy facilities attacked in Crimea

According to available information, the 220 kV “Bakhchisaray” substation, located in Bakhchisaray, was targeted during the night. There are also reports that the 10/35/10 kV “Zimino” substation was hit.

Toward morning, reports began circulating online that the power was out in Bakhchisaray.

Emerging reports, including images from NASA’s FIRMS thermal anomaly monitoring service, indicate signs of fires in the vicinity of one of the facilities following the strike.

Satellites Show Changes on the Peninsula

A comparison of satellite images taken in July 2025 and July 2026 has been published separately.

They show that the level of outdoor lighting at night in occupied Crimea has significantly decreased.

These changes are attributed to ongoing strikes on the peninsula’s energy infrastructure.

Over the past year, substations, power supply facilities, and other components of the energy system have been regularly targeted.

It was previously reported that successive strikes on energy facilities in occupied Crimea have led to a noticeable deterioration in the peninsula’s power grid.

Against this backdrop, nighttime outdoor lighting has been significantly reduced in many areas, as recorded by satellite surveillance systems.

We remind you that the summer tourist season in occupied Crimea is turning out to be significantly weaker than expected, all due to the actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Despite the discounts offered by local hotels, the flow of vacationers continues to decline, and many Russians prefer to spend their vacations at other resorts rather than travel to the peninsula.
