The Death Toll In Venezuela Has Reached Nearly 3,000 Following The Earthquakes

On Saturday, the death toll in Venezuela from the two earthquakes that struck last week approached 3,000.
This was reported by Bloomberg.
According to the latest government report, 2,954 people were killed and 16,592 were injured as a result of the earthquakes. This is more than the 2,645 deaths reported the day before, and the number of injured has increased by approximately 4,000 over the past day.
Families of the missing continue to insist that the authorities step up search and rescue efforts.
At this time, the government has not released an official estimate of the number of missing persons. However, according to data compiled by the opposition, the number of missing persons may exceed 32,000.
It should also be noted that the UN and other organizations believe that, given the scale of the disaster, the final death toll could exceed 10,000 people.
As a reminder, on the evening of June 24, part of of Venezuela was struck by two earthquakes at once. The first had a magnitude of 7.2, and the second, 7.5.
Following the events, many buildings in a number of towns and villages were damaged or destroyed. The UN estimates that the earthquakes affected nearly 2 million buildings, with damages totaling $6.7 billion.
