Against the backdrop of the fuel crisis in Russia.
Russia is seeing a sharp increase in horse sales in rural areas amid the current fuel crisis. Mash drew attention to this trend. Whereas customers used to have to wait several months to pick up a single horse, they can now pick up as many as eight animals in just a few weeks.
“Rural residents are increasingly buying horses instead of SUVs—it turns out to be cheaper to travel off-road, go to the forest, harvest hay, and tend to their farms,” the channel’s authors note, citing eyewitnesses. According to their data, over the past month, some breeders have sold or reserved 7–8 animals each, whereas previously a horse might have had to wait 2–3 months for an owner.
The rise in demand for horses is linked to the situation on the fuel market. Currently, prices for horses range from 100,000 to 200,000 rubles, depending on age, breed, and training. The costs of keeping an animal include: hoof trimming, replacing horseshoes, and purchasing hay and supplements.
