The President Of Finland Explained What Restrictions China Has Imposed On The Kremlin

Finnish President Alexander Stubb stated that China will not allow Russia to use nuclear weapons. Beijing gave corresponding assurances to the Finnish side during his meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Helsinki in July, according to Politico.

In the interview, Stubb called China’s position “a sufficient deterrent” that reduces the risk of further escalation of Russia’s war against Ukraine.

“Moscow is interested in keeping Europe in a state of constant tension by threatening to use nuclear weapons and potentially attacking NATO countries,” the Finnish president said.

At the same time, Stubb urged European nations not to give in to panic. “We must remain calm and vigilant, avoid dramatizing the situation, and prepare for the worst in order to avoid it,” he said.

The Finnish president also expressed doubt that Russia would decide to launch a direct attack against NATO in the near future. In his view, Moscow’s current actions are more akin to “provocation,” while a significant portion of the Russian armed forces remains engaged in the war against Ukraine.
Stubb emphasized that NATO’s deterrence system continues to function, but Europe must remain prepared for various scenarios. At the same time, the Finnish president considers it necessary to prepare for a possible resumption of direct political dialogue with Moscow. According to him, such contact in the future could help avoid dangerous misunderstandings between Russia and the West.
At the same time, Stubb named support for Ukraine as the top priority for European countries. He is convinced that the outcome of the Russia-Ukraine war will be of key importance for Europe’s future security.

Stubb’s statement came amid ongoing discussions in Europe regarding nuclear threats from Russia and the risks of the war spreading beyond Ukraine. According to the Finnish president, the threat must be taken seriously, but without undue dramatization.
