The President Of Brazil Declined To Attend The BRICS Summit

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will not attend the BRICS summit in New Delhi in September. This was reported by the television network CNN Brasil.

According to reporters, the president declined to attend the summit due to his re-election campaign in Brazil. The presidential election is scheduled to take place in October.

Instead of Lula da Silva, the Brazilian delegation at the summit will be led by Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira.

BRICS is an alliance of major emerging economies that began with Brazil, Russia, India, and China. The organization was established in June 2006 as part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). Today, the group comprises ten countries: Russia, Brazil, India, China, South Africa, Iran, the UAE, Egypt, Ethiopia, and Indonesia.

Since 2009, the governments of the BRICS nations have been meeting at official summits. In addition, meetings are held at the level of foreign ministers, finance ministers, and others. The next BRICS summit will take place in India this fall. The two-day event will begin on September 12 in New Delhi.
