Putin Publicly Expressed His Support For Iran

The Russian dictator also expressed his willingness to provide assistance to Tehran.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin expressed support for Iran and its Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, assuring Tehran of Moscow’s readiness to provide the necessary assistance and expressing admiration for the “courage and resilience” of the Iranian people. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian described relations between the two countries as strategic.
Putin and Masoud held talks on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Bishkek, which brought together more than a dozen leaders, including Chinese leader Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to France24.
They met a day after U.S. President Donald Trump — who had previously warned Moscow and Beijing against arming Tehran — threatened to launch a “powerful strike” against Iran following the first exchange of strikes in several weeks.
According to Pezeshkian, if the U.S. returns to fulfilling its obligations under the Memorandum of Understanding, Tehran “will immediately do the same.”
Pezeškian also warned that a return by the United States to a “policy of pressure and threats” could derail diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the war.
During his meeting with Putin, the Iranian president told him, “We appreciate your position and thank you for it at every stage.” He also added, “This demonstrates that our relations are strategic in nature, not merely routine.”
Putin told Pezeshkian that Russia “is trying to provide you with the necessary assistance.”
“We admire your courage and resilience in the struggle for your national interests,” — said the Russian dictator.
“Despite the military and political situation, we are maintaining the momentum of our trade and economic relations that developed last year,” he added.
Putin also conveyed “greetings and words of sincere support to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Khamenei.”
The war in the Middle East began in late February with U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, which resulted in the death of the country’s former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
On Monday, Iran and the United States resumed exchanging strikes after more than a month of relative calm. The Strait of Hormuz remains a key point of contention.
Tehran continues to keep the strategic waterway closed, while simultaneously declaring its readiness to resume compliance with its obligations under the June agreement—which provided, in particular, for the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, — provided the United States does the same.
