The Kremlin Reacted Nervously To Pashinyan's Speech In Armenian

Peskov saw this as a “signal.”

The Kremlin expressed confusion over the fact that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan delivered a speech in Armenian at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit.

Russian propagandists are quoting Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.

He believes that Pashinyan was thereby asserting Armenia’s sovereignty.

“Yes, it was a signal—to declare Armenia’s sovereignty. To be honest, we don’t understand why this couldn’t have been stated in Russian,” Peskov said.

At the same time, he added that the Russian side “respects” this choice by the head of the Armenian government, if it is “so important” to him and is his “top priority.”

On August 27, Pashinyan stated that there were grounds for not considering Russia a strategic partner of the country.
