Miroslav Lajčák meets with wives of political prisoners

Miroslav Lajčák, a managing director at the European External Action Service, met with the wives of Belarusian political prisoners in Kyiv on April 19.
On that day, Kyiv held a donors’ conference with presence of Jose Manuel Barroso to raise funds for construction of a new shelter over reactor No 4 of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
Volha Bandarenka, Darya Korsak (Atroshchankava) and Maryna Adamovich (the wife of Mikalai Statkevich) are members Vyzvalenne (Release) civil initiative that units the relatives of prisoners of the regime suffering from repressions following the events on December 19, 2010. They handed over a letter to the European official asking the EU leaders for their assistance in the release of Belarusian political prisoners.
Miroslav Lajčák assured the wives of political prisoners that the European Union was keeping a close eye on the situation in Belarus and would do its best to release their husbands.
