The Ministry of Defence says almost 50 percent of participants of silent protests detained on June 22 evade draft.
According to RIA Novosti this statement was made on Belarusian television by Syarhei Kuprik, the chief of the Main Organization and Mobilization Department of the Belarusian Armed Forces.
According to Kuprik, data on draft evaders were given to military enlistment offices to take a decision on calling up. He also did not rule out that draft dodgers can be brought to administrative or criminal responsibility.
Kuprik stressed that the Interior Ministry would continue to identify dodgers among participants of protest actions to “help the young people to fulfill their Constitutional duty”.
Mass protest actions were held in 40 towns across Belarus on June 22. 450 persons were detained. Police detained 200 persons in Minsk, where the biggest protests took place. 30 of the detained were fined for “disorderly conduct”.
A peculiar feature of the action “Revolution through social networks” is that demonstrators do not carry posters and do not chant slogans.
