Who gave the right to wiretap phones to security services?

Young Front member Yulian Misyukevich tries to find out who permitted to wiretap his phone. The third months of attempts did not bring any results.

The 21-year-old student of the Belarusian State University was a witness in the case of so called mass disorders on December 19, 2010. During an interrogation in March, he was given to hear records of his telephone conversations in November and December 2010. According to Misyukevich, most of the calls were made before the events on the Square. He does not understand in connection with what criminal case the security services wiretapped his phone, “Nasha Niva” reports.

Yulian filed an appeal to the General Prosecutor’s Office asking to figure out which prosecutor authorized wiretapping. The General Prosecutor’s Office re-sent the appeal to the prosecutor’s office of the Vitsebsk region (Misyukevich was interrogated by investigator Bychek from the KGB department of the Vitsebsk region). The reply said that Bychek was a member of the operative team investigating the criminal case over “mass riot”. The prosecutor’s office of the Vitsebsk region suggested that control over legality of investigation should be carried out by the prosecutor’s office of Minsk. But the latter re-sent the appeal again to the General Prosecutor’s Office.

The General Prosecutor’s Office answered last week that the complaint had been sent to the KGB.

Yulian Misyukevich is indignant over the fact of wiretapping. “If my phone was tapped by the KGB, I’d like to know what danger I can pose to the country. If these actions were illegal, let the prosecutor’s office deal with this,” he says.
