Belarusian Movement party stands for active boycott of elections

20

The organizing committee to create Belarusian Movement party supported the idea of boycotting the elections to the “house of representatives”.

The organizing committee consists of Vatslau Areshka, Vintsuk Vyachorka, Viktar Ivashkevich, Yury Khadyka and others, Radio Svaboda reports.

Under the word “boycott” representatives of Belarusian Movement mean active participation of People’s Assembly committee and other responsible political forces in the campaign of active boycotting the fake elections; inviting grassroots protest groups to join the campaign “Protest by Boycotting”; taking part in election observation, support the civil campaign “For Fair Elections”, the press release reads.

This position was supported by Minsk activist of the future party, who attended the meeting of the organizing committee.

It was noticed at the meeting that existence of political prisoners in the country demonstrates the authorities are not going to carry out even partially free elections.

The “coalition of six”, uniting the UCP, BPF, Fair World party, the BCD organizing committee, For Freedom Movement and Tell the Truth campaign, has recently announced its position regarding the elections. They are ready to run in the elections only on condition of the release of political prisoners and changes in the electoral legislation and practice in application of the legislation.

The elections to the “house of representatives” are scheduled for September 2012.
