Now, the long-awaited Ukrainian counteroffensive in the south is ahead.
Judging by the statements of Putin's fifth column in Germany, the Kremlin decided to try to temporarily freeze the situation on the Russian-Ukrainian front. This was actually called for by the well-known "Putinfersteer", Prime Minister of Saxony Michael Kretschmer, and other local “understanders” of Putin are hinting at the same.
Putin now needs such a temporary freeze of the war like air. This is the only thing that can save him from complete failure. The Russian offensive in the Donbas finally bogged down. Most likely, he will not be able to capture something significant. On the contrary, he can lose. Ahead is the long-awaited Ukrainian counter-offensive in the south.
And most importantly, the Kremlin needs a suspension of active hostilities in order to calmly hold a fake referendum, and annex the occupied territories.
This annexation is Putin's last chance to justify the war in the eyes of the Russian common men, and appear before them in the image of a “winner”, and not a shameful loser, which he is actually becoming every day of a failed war. While the Ukrainians are massively shelling the occupiers and preparing a counteroffensive, no “referendum” can be set on the agenda. The Kremlin needs a temporary lull no later than in September, when this imitation necessary for annexation is planned.
Then, having accumulated strength, Putin will again try to destroy Ukraine, but for now he needs a “freeze” of active hostilities in order to keep hold of, and digest what has already been captured.
