Liya Akhedzhakova Fired From Theatre For Anti-War Stand

At the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, the actress condemned Putin and expressed support for the people of Ukraine.

Liya Akhedzhakova, a well-known actress and native of Dnipro, has been dismissed from the Sovremennik theatre on the order of the management because of her support for Ukraine.

According to her, the theatre, where she has worked for 45 years, started receiving angry letters to her address, so the celebrity has been removed from all the productions.

Liya Akhedzhakova said that she knows who is behind this, but understands that there is nothing she can do about it.

"There is an order, these performances have already been replaced. I was warned by the director that I will no longer be in the repertoire at the request of some angry people who have written letters to him, and the Department of Culture has confirmed that I have been removed from the theatre's repertoire. I am sitting here crying. I understand everything, I know who writes it, who organizes it, but there is nothing I can do," she said.
