Then a number of countries, including Italy, will be able to join the organization.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has asked US President Donald Trump to change the "configuration" of the newly created Peace Council. Then, she believes, a number of countries, including Italy, will be able to join the organization.

Accession to the Peace Council in its current form is impossible for Rome: it would contradict the Italian constitution. Meloni's reasoning is reported by ANSA.

Meloni wants a change in Trump's "configuration" of the Peace Council

The Italian government chief said Friday, Jan. 23, that she has asked Trump to change the "configuration" of his Peace Council to make it easier for Italy and other countries to join.

Meloni said Rome was interested in participating in the newly created organization but could not join yet because it contained aspects that contradicted the Italian Constitution.

"I said that there are objective constitutional problems for us regarding the configuration of the initiative, and I asked him to express his willingness to reopen this configuration to meet the needs not only of Italy but also of other European countries. We must try to do the job," she said during a press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz after the Italy-Germany intergovernmental summit in Rome.

Meloni is convinced that the presence of countries like Italy in Trump's Peace Council "can make a difference."

"This is our position, and then we will see what opportunities we have to find common ground," the Italian prime minister said.

Not ready to join the Peace Council in its current form and Mertz.

"As for the Peace Council, I personally would be ready to join it if it accompanies the Gaza process in the second phase. But in any case, we cannot accept the current governance structures. We are ready to explore new formats with the US," the German chancellor noted.

Meloni will support a Nobel Peace Prize for Trump if he stops the war in Ukraine

The Italian prime minister also expressed hope that the US president will succeed in ending the Russian-Ukrainian war. She assured: if Trump can bring peace back to Ukraine - the Italian government will support awarding him the Nobel Peace Prize.

"I hope that we can award the Nobel Peace Prize to Trump. I believe that he will also be able to change the situation in favor of a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, and then finally we will also be able to nominate Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize," Meloni said.
