Meloni Recalled The Berlin Wall And Russian Tanks

The politician clearly explained why Italy should support Ukraine.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated that Ukraine’s surrender would not bring peace, but would instead mean the conquest of a European state and the return of Soviet-style imperialism.

She made these remarks in speech in parliament ahead of this week’s EU leaders’ summit.

Support for Ukraine Brings Peace Closer

Meloni noted that support for Ukraine is not an alternative to peace; on the contrary, it is what brings that peace closer.

“Surrender is not peace; it is conquest. If Ukraine were to stop defending itself tomorrow, as many hope or suggest, we would not achieve peace. We would be discussing the occupation of a European country and the return of Soviet-style imperialism, which Europe experienced for half a century,” stated the Italian Prime Minister.

I don’t miss Russian tanks

She added that she “doesn’t miss” those years when European countries suffered under Soviet domination.

“I don’t miss the Russian tanks that crushed the uprisings in Prague and Budapest, and I don’t miss the Berlin Wall. And no one will convince me that the capitulation of those who defend their freedom can be called peace. The peace we strive for and are working to build—even at the cost of losing consensus—is a just peace,” Meloni stated.

Only a just peace, she added, can be long-lasting and guarantee the security of Europe and Italian interests.
Meloni also stated in her speech that the U.S. agreement with Russia on diesel fuel supplies is a very risky decision.

The Italian prime minister also believes that Putin is resorting to provocations in Europe to divert attention from the situation on the battlefield.
