The "crime Of The Century" Was Solved In The Brest Region

Eighty people were allegedly involved in the scam, which was coordinated “from abroad.”

Since the beginning of the year, the Brest Region has seen an increase in the number of reports from citizens regarding the theft of large sums of money online. The perpetrators who made the calls posed as employees of various organizations, including law enforcement agencies. After analyzing several cases, the Brest Regional Internal Affairs Directorate concluded that an organized group was operating.

“The analytical work carried out revealed a connection between the scattered participants in the scams, which helped identify numerous links in a system spanning the entire country. Investigators identified individuals involved in operating the equipment and recruiting support staff, and pinpointed the organizers and supervisors, who are located in a neighboring country. The group consisted of more than 80 people: “drops,” couriers, and specialists responsible for ensuring the uninterrupted operation of the equipment,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs press service reported.

A nationwide fraud scheme was dismantled:
equipment worth more than 60,000 rubles was seized;
damages totaling over 10 million rubles were prevented.

The Internal Affairs Directorate noted that the criminal group’s activities “were coordinated from a neighboring country.”
