The VKontakte Data Center In St. Petersburg Partially Collapsed

Services are experiencing outages.

The data center of the Russian IT monopoly “VKontakte” sustained very serious damage as a result of an overnight attack. Footage from the scene has already appeared online, according to Dialog.UA.

Judging by the published photos, the fire at the data center has already been extinguished. However, the building has partially collapsed. Users of the VKontakte platform and services are complaining about service disruptions. The company has yet to comment.

On the night of October 18, St. Petersburg experienced its most massive drone attack. At least six facilities were targeted: the VKontakte data center, the largest oil terminal—the Ruchyi oil depot, the St. Petersburg Oil Terminal, the Ozon marketplace’s logistics center, the bridge over the shipping channel, and the “Vostochnaya” power substation.

Air defense systems shot down drones directly over the city, causing some to crash near apartment buildings. Operations at St. Petersburg Airport were paralyzed—dozens of flights were canceled, and passengers were evacuated from the terminals during the attack.
