And that's not a yuan.
Russian economist Igor Lipits reaffirmed his previous prediction that Russia may soon begin using gold as a means of payment: “I still can’t rule that out. Some kind of strange transformation is taking place in Russia’s monetary system. On the one hand, dollars and euros have been driven out of the country, as you know, and—take note—it suddenly became clear that the main currency of the Russian Federation is the yuan, and the Ministry of Finance announced plans to issue government bonds and take out a loan in yuan.”
My forecast for Russia in the near future in an interview with “Popular Politics” on YouTube.
“The issue of gold bars is a matter of inflation rates. If inflation remains low, this issue won’t arise. If inflation is high, then, of course, large payments will be made in gold, as happens in Iran. There, too, people pay with gold for large, expensive purchases or for rent—that is, the payment is denominated in a specific weight of gold. “You pay with gold, so prices don’t rise and inflation doesn’t take hold; therefore, everything depends on what the inflation rate will be,” the expert speculated.
“The issue is that we don’t know what will happen with inflation next year. I’ve been watching what’s happening with the budget, and I suspect there will be a very sharp spike in inflation next year because the government has no money, and the only real way to solve this problem is to launch a massive, large-scale money issuance, which will lead to an immediate spike in inflation—so this is a very real possibility for next year,” Lipits summarised.
