He intends to seek political asylum in the United States.

Former Brazilian presidential candidate Flavio Bolsonaro, who is suspected of money laundering, fled the country across the border into Argentina, according to the Spanish-language publication Infobae. According to the publication, he intends to travel to the U.S.

The day before, the country’s Supreme Court ordered Bolsonaro to surrender his passport to law enforcement authorities to prevent him from leaving the country. According to Infobae, he managed to cross the Argentine border using an internal ID card. At 2:00 a.m. on October 27 (8:00 a.m. in Minsk) local time, he was scheduled to depart on a private flight to the U.S.

Sources close to the politician, as reported by Metropoles, said that Flávio Bolsonaro intends to travel to Florida with his wife and two daughters and seek political asylum. His current whereabouts are unknown. Argentine authorities, however, denied having any information confirming that Bolsonaro had entered the country.

In October in Brazil, the presidential election concluded, with incumbent President Lula da Silva winning 51.79% of the vote. Flavio Bolsonaro received 48.21%.
