A Russian Z-blogger Disappeared After Publishing A Post About Oleshky

What did he write?

Russian Z-blogger Vladimir Romanov, author of the popular Telegram channel “Romanov Light,” disappeared from the media landscape after publishing information about the evacuation of residents of Oleshky in the Kherson region. According to The Moscow Times, the blogger stopped updating his channel after it became widely known that most of the evacuees had chosen Ukraine over Russia.

As verified by Kyiv Post, Romanov’s last post was dated October 31. Under it, users began leaving comments speculating that the blogger might have been detained by Russian security forces.

“The FSB sent him to the ‘Kresty’ prison,” wrote one of his followers, referring to the prison in St. Petersburg.

The day before, the Telegram channel “Aggregator of Truth,” citing sources close to the security services, reported that Romanov could face criminal charges for disseminating information about the humanitarian operation in Oleshky. Russian authorities may deem these reports “fake news.”

At the same time, the channel did not provide any details regarding the blogger’s possible prosecution. There is currently no official information regarding his detention or the filing of charges.

Romanov reported that 17 buses from Oleshky were heading to Ukraine, but deleted the post

On October 30, Vladimir Romanov posted information stating that 17 buses carrying evacuated residents of Oleshky were heading to Ukraine, while only four buses had departed for Russia.

About half an hour later, the blogger deleted this information from his post. However, the information was preserved in the archived version of the post.

“On TV, they’ll most likely show more of ‘our’ buses, but the windows in them will be completely covered,” Romanov wrote.

His report generally matched the information provided by American journalist Alex Salvi of Newsmax, who was covering the evacuation. According to him, 11 buses carrying civilians left for Ukraine, and another four headed for Russia.
The discrepancy between the blogger’s reports and official Russian rhetoric drew criticism even from supporters of the war.

In particular, the Telegram channel “Reports from the Novorossiya Militia” cast doubt on possible accusations against Romanov of discrediting the Russian army, since similar information had been published by the American journalist.

Ukrainian intelligence accuses Romanov of gathering intelligence for the Russian military

Ukrainian authorities describe Vladimir Romanov as a propagandist who actively supports Russia’s war against Ukraine. The blogger lives in occupied Sevastopol and, prior to his disappearance, regularly published several posts a day, including photos and videos from the front lines.

According to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, Romanov used a special bot on his blog to urge Ukrainians to report the addresses of regional recruitment and social support centers, as well as coordinates for potential strikes.

Intelligence officials also stated that the blogger was raising funds for the Russian army through a separate Telegram channel.

Previously, Romanov had criticized the actions of certain Russian military units, in particular the Chechen “Akhmat” unit. In May 2025, he posted a video from the Crimean Bridge following reports of an attack. In early 2026, he also shared information about widespread disruptions to Starlink satellite communications along the front lines.
