Why is the dictator fretting over the labor shortage?

Over the past year, Lukashenko has been pushing the idea of attracting migrant workers to Belarus. At first, he actively sought to lure Pakistanis into the country. However, we never actually saw a large number of workers from that country.

During the July 9 visit to Minsk by Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the dictator set out to lure migrant workers from Central Asia:

“Well, people responded positively. I’m telling you, we love Uzbeks here. Even more than Pakistanis… I want your people to come here with their families. In agriculture, as I tell the president, we provide housing,” said Lukashenko.

Why is the dictator so worried about the labor shortage? The Telegram channel “Nick and Mike,” which specializes in insider information, reported that Lukashenko received a secret report on the actual demographic situation in the country:

— Lukashenko began ruling a country with a population of 10.6 million.

COVID denialism and repression against Belarusians have led to a dire situation. The security services presented Lukashenko with a report on the population. And the figure left him in shock.

As a result of the junta’s actions, Belarus’s population now stands at 7.5 million. And the exodus continues. It is particularly shocking that young people are leaving, while pensioners and “krasavtsy” of various military ranks remain—and they must be fed.

The junta’s rule has reduced the country’s population by nearly a third. The junta has managed to repeat the genocide of the Belarusian people. And it did so without a war.
