Preliminary Cause Of Death Named For U.S. Senator Graham

Senator Lindsey Graham, one of U.S. President Donald Trump in Congress, died of an aortic rupture, according to preliminary findings from a medical examiner’s report released by his office, reports Associated Press.

The publication reported that, according to preliminary findings by forensic medical experts, the cause of death was aortic dissection—a tear in the wall of the body’s main artery associated with hardening of the arteries.

At the same time, the article notes that the official cause of death will be announced after toxicological and microscopic examinations have been conducted.

Graham, a prominent Republican from South Carolina and a former Air Force lawyer who served in Congress for more than three decades, celebrated his 71st birthday two days before his death on Saturday evening.

The publication noted that his office reported he had suffered from a “brief and sudden illness.”

Trump, who often spoke with Graham, said he was “like family.” On NBC’s “Meet the Press,” he said that Graham called him on Saturday evening after returning from a trip to Ukraine and “sounded a little tired but was feeling great.” The president ordered that flags across the country be flown at half-mast until next Saturday evening.
