The U.S. Warned Poland Of A Possible Armed Provocation By Russia

How the occupiers might set it up.

The United States has warned Poland that Russia may be planning an armed provocation on Polish territory, which could be intended to test NATO’s readiness for a collective response.

Washington has repeatedly conveyed intelligence warnings to Warsaw about Moscow’s possible actions, according to the Polish publication Onet and The Telegraph, citing sources close to Polish President Karol Nawrocki as well as security officials.

Possible scenarios include drone or missile strikes on Poland’s critical infrastructure, as well as the infiltration of Russian or Belarusian military personnel into the country—a small-scale ground incursion by Russian soldiers through NATO’s eastern flank.

Sources in the Polish intelligence services suggest that Russia could organize an attack on energy facilities or simulate an airstrike to force Poland to deploy its air defense systems.

A scenario involving a so-called hybrid attack in the border zone is also being considered.

The sources do not rule out that Russia might present this as an accidental incursion into Polish territory due to a GPS malfunction or as a dubious rescue operation to evacuate a malfunctioning helicopter.

“Russia will be counting on the fact that, rather than opening fire on Russian or Belarusian soldiers in such a situation, Poland will be forced to negotiate with Russia or Belarus rather than respond with force,” Polish sources said.

It is noted that the West’s cessation of support for Ukraine could even become Russia’s central demand in such negotiations in exchange for the withdrawal of troops from Poland.

A second source at the embassy of one of Poland’s NATO allies also confirmed that a provocation in one of the Baltic states poses a serious risk. A source in the Polish Ministry of Defense made the same statement.
A fourth source in the Baltic states’ security sector confirmed to The Telegraph that such plans were discussed in Moscow. Russia may then attempt to claim that Ukraine carried out the provocation.
