People Began To Conceal What Seemed To Be A Harmless Fact About Lukashenko

Is it forbidden to mention a ruler's age?

On August 30, the Belarusian leader turned 72. However, state media have made no mention of this, and Alexander Lukashenko’s press office did not even report on a congratulatory message from Vladimir Putin.

As of Sunday evening, the only news item on the leader’s website was a report that Lukashenko had congratulated the staff and veterans of OJSC “Belaruskali” on Miners’ Day. Not a word was said about the president turning 72. A similar situation was observed in state media.

Meanwhile, a statement from the Kremlin press service revealed that Lukashenko had received congratulations from Vladimir Putin twice: first via telegram, and then during a phone call.

“Solidarnast” has already noted: it appears that state propaganda has been banned from mentioning the leader’s age. Two years ago, Lukashenko’s press service and state media “forgot” about his 70th birthday.
