The U.S. Struck The Iranian Island Of Larak

IRGC missile launchers have been hit.

The United States attacked two missile launchers belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) located on the Iranian island of Larak. This was reported, citing Al Jazeera.

According to the agency, the strike took place on Sunday, August 30, just as the launchers were preparing to fire missiles equipped with sea mines toward the Strait of Hormuz.

The IRGC confirmed that several military personnel and civilians were killed or wounded as a result of the attack, though it did not provide exact figures on the number of casualties. The IRGC vowed to retaliate and find those responsible.

Earlier, on August 26, Axios, citing its own sources, reported that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had informed a number of foreign counterparts that no new strikes against Iran were planned in the near future. According to the publication, instead of military action, Washington intends to focus on strengthening the naval blockade, tightening sanctions, and maximizing the volume of oil transported through the Strait of Hormuz.

As a second source in the U.S. administration told Axios, this course of action will most likely continue at least until the end of the midterm elections—after which the question of a possible new military operation may once again be on the agenda.

Rubio’s statement, addressed to the foreign ministers of allied nations, came amid the clearance of most of the Strait of Hormuz and the gradual resumption of tanker traffic — which significantly weakens Iran’s ability to influence global energy markets, the publication notes.
