The two autocrats share an interesting relationship.
Zimbabwean leader Emerson Mnangagwa spoke of his almost familial ties with dictator Lukashenko, according to ONT.
“President Lukashenko and I have developed a special, personal relationship… We are friends; we are bound by fraternal, almost familial ties,” he commented.
Mnangagwa emphasized that Belarus and Zimbabwe also allegedly maintain close relations at the state level:
“We’re family, you know? Belarus and Zimbabwe are family.”
The Zimbabwean leader said that a visit to Minsk is not in his immediate plans, though he did not rule out such trips in the future.
As reported by the website Charter97.org, Emerson Mnangagwa’s son Collins Mnangagwa was recently sent to Belarus for rehabilitation after, according to sources, he developed a drug addiction.
Zimbabwean opposition figures also reported that Mnangagwa may have transported Zimbabwean gold to Belarus.
