Confirmation Has Emerged Of The Dismissal Of The Deputy Warden At The Yelenovka Prison

The deputy warden of the correctional colony in Yelenovka Dmitry Neelov was in the car that was blown up on Saturday night in the “DPR,” as confirmed in correspondence with the editor "Agency" his wife confirmed in correspondence with the editor. The explosion occurred in Donetsk on the night of August 29. It was initially reported by the Ukrainian monitoring channel Supernova+. Later, the Ukrainian publications “Censor.net” and “Ukrainska Pravda” reported, citing sources, that Neelov’s car had been blown up.

Neelov is on trial in Ukraine in connection with the deaths of Ukrainian prisoners of war during the explosions at the Yelenovka penal colony in 2022. In July 2024, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine announced that Neelov and the former warden of the Yelenovka prison camp, Sergey Yevsyukov, were under suspicion.

According to UN estimates, at least 50 prisoners of war were killed in the explosions at the prison, and another 151 were injured. Ukraine accused Russia of deliberately targeting the prison camp. An internal UN analysis later obtained by the Associated Press indicates that Russia planned and carried out the attack.

According to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Neelov and Yevsyukov “deliberately delayed the evacuation of the wounded to medical facilities.” The Ukrainian prosecutor’s office reported that nine prisoners died due to delayed and inadequate medical care.

Yevsyukov was killed when a car exploded in Donetsk in December 2024.
