Ukrainian soldiers liberated 200 km².
French OSINT researcher Clément Molin reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces successfully carried out a large-scale counterattack in the Lyman direction. According to him, the operation is still ongoing, but significant results are already evident: Russia may have lost about 200 km² of territory or even more.
Molen noted that the Ukrainian side maintained military secrecy very effectively. Thanks to this, the operation did not attract undue attention at a time when the Russian command still needed to urgently deploy reinforcements.
“This means that the Russian command failed to send reinforcements at a critical moment two months ago, even though they were clearly needed. Now it’s too late to salvage anything. About 200 km²—or even more, as fighting continues—of territory previously under Russian control has now been lost, with part of it already held by Ukraine.
This is a severe blow to the Kremlin, as it will further complicate the offensive on Lyman and Izyum and give Slavyansk time to organize its defense. “It seems the situation may improve after months of extremely difficult conditions, given that the 3rd Army Corps is now responsible for the defense of Slavyansk,” Molen added.
Part of the territory previously controlled by Russia is already held by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Molen expects that in the coming days, various pro-Ukrainian media outlets will begin reporting on the results of the Liman counteroffensive.
The loss of territory in the Liman direction could further complicate the Russian offensive on Liman and Izyum, as well as give Ukraine more time to prepare its defenses in Slavyansk.
There are no official reports from the command yet. But the very fact that, according to Molen, Russian reinforcements were not deployed at the critical moment indicates that the Ukrainian side was able to conduct operations covertly and impose a grueling pace on the enemy.
