Russia's top leadership has been in a gloomy mood for the past couple of months.
This was reported by a former Odessa city council member who defected to Russia, Z-blogger Igor Dmitriev, according to “Dialog”.
According to Dmitriev, such shifts in the Kremlin leadership’s sentiment are a harbinger of the war’s imminent end. At the same time, he fears that before this conclusion, the regime may resort to desperate measures capable of causing serious harm to Russia itself.
“Western media are circulating a phrase allegedly uttered by Vladimir Putin: ‘They’ll hang me.’ The implication is that if the war ends without reaching the borders of the Donetsk region, Russian patriots will be so outraged that they will commit an irreparable act. Most likely, the Westerners made up this phrase themselves, trying to explain such a stubborn determination to take Slavyansk and Kramatorsk at the cost of mobilization and an economic crisis—though, you know, I’m ready to believe just about anything by now. Perhaps the Russian leadership has just as distorted a view of public sentiment as it does of what’s happening on the front lines. Still, I think they made up that phrase. But here’s what’s really happening: all my acquaintances who, by virtue of their positions, attend meetings with high-ranking officials—that is, with the president and top leaders—say that in recent months they’ve somehow taken a sharp turn for the worse, both physically and in terms of how much less confident they appear on camera.
