A Drone Attack On Moscow Caused Chaos At Airports

More than 100 flights were canceled.

At Moscow’s major airports—Vnukovo and Sheremetyevo—more than 120 flights were canceled or delayed due to a massive drone attack.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine.

According to the publication’s estimates, schedule adjustments at the capital’s two airports affected about 40 departing flights and more than 80 arriving flights.

Passengers managed to board several planes before “Plan Carpet” was implemented at Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo at 10:27 p.m. local time.

Some flights were rescheduled for the following day.

According to Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, on the evening of September 2, air defense forces shot down nine drones flying toward the capital.

As of 12:27 a.m. on September 3, the mayor of the Russian capital reported that 10 drones had allegedly already been shot down.

The “Carpet” plan in Russia is a special airspace regime that is implemented in the event of a serious threat, including during UAV attacks or the appearance of unidentified aerial objects.

Once “Kover” is declared, civilian aircraft must immediately leave the designated zone or land, and airport operations may be completely restricted.

As a reminder, on September 1, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russian airspace is becoming dangerous for civil aviation due to the massive presence of Ukrainian drones.
