Just Russia Party: Is this bad that Moscow’s attitude towards Lukashenka has changed?

39

The International Department of Just Russia Party Apparatus prepared a material on the situation in Belarus.

Here is the full text of the document:

A ceremony of signing a memorandum on strategic partnership of Belarusian opposition parties was held in Minsk. The document is titled “The Statement on Joint Actions Coordination during the Presidential Campaign”. As follows from the document, oppositional partners agreed on joint proposing democratic representatives to election commissions, organizing joint monitoring of the campaign and coordinating street protests against rigging election results. An Issue on choosing a single opposition candidate wasn’t discussed at the meeting.

Anyway, the meeting was followed by a scandal provoked by the Belarusian Popular Front Part (BPF). Some days before, BPF presidential candidate Ryhor Kastusyou and party leader Alyaksei Yanukovich presented the Manifesto on National Interests Protection. It says: “Not only the current regime but also Russian political circles and their friendly oligarchs constitute a danger for political and economic independence of Belarus and freedom of its citizens. Uniting the opposition forces only against Lukashenka is a weak position. We call to join forces not against someone but for protection of our national interests.” According to the document, the BPF party refuses to accept Russia’s help and calls on all presidential candidates to join this declaration. The manifesto also says: “the politicians who don’t sign it will be announced predators of interests of the people of Belarus and Kremlin’s puppets.”

A presentation of the manifesto at the opposition meeting came like a bombshell. The European Belarus civil campaign accused the BPF party of serving the interests of official Minsk. Zmitser Bandarenka, a coordinator of the European Belarus campaign, told in an interview to Kommersant newspaper: “The authors of this initiative have been avoiding to take part in opposition demonstrations in recent times. They didn’t come to a demonstration demanding to start international investigation of kidnapping of the opposition leaders.” According to Bandarenka, “No normal Belarusian politician will sign this absurd manifesto.”

Moreover, the European Belarus leadership raises a question why the manifesto was issued at the moment “when Russia’s position towards the last dictatorship in Europe begins to change”. As a result, “the Europeans” accused the BPF party of unwillingness to “change the dictatorial regime”. “What is bad if Moscow again attracts attention to investigation of the disappeared people’s cases, speaks about corruptness of Lukashenka and retinue?” says statement of the European Belarus campaign spread in Minsk.

The increased activity of the opposition in Minsk is explained by observers by expectation of early presidential elections in the country. The Belarusian authorities said the elections are planned for February 2011. However, most experts and politicians tend to think the elections will be held by the end of the year.
