Disgraced Oligarch Chyzh Sentenced To 3.6 Years Of Imprisonment
YURY CHYZH

And immediately amnestied.

Today, the court of the Central District of Minsk announced the verdict in the case of Yury Chyzh.

As Narodnaya Volya reported, Chyzh was accused of money laundering and fraud.

The trial in the high-profile case was held behind closed doors — the state prosecutor asked for this, arguing that both the decision to bring Chyzh as a defendant and the case materials contained information for official use that could not be disclosed.

As follows from the verdict, which was read out by judge Valer Yesman, Yury Chyzh was released from serving in the colony — an amnesty was applied and the time that he had already served was included in the sentence.

It was said in court that Chyzh's money seized during the searches was kept in a deposit account with the KGB, and now it can be taken away. It's not millions of dollars — the amounts were called small.

The property of the businessman was also released from arrest.

How did Yury Chyzh react to the verdict?

“To put it in one word, time will pass – we’ll figure it out,” he told Narodnaya Volya. “This decision is just a starting point for me. An opportunity to go about my business. And there is still a lot ahead, a lot of things will have to be restored …”

Yury Chyzh does not intend to leave Belarus. And not only because now he is still temporarily restricted to travel abroad.

“There is a lot to do here,” he says.
