Kaja Callas: Moscow Has Already Lost More Than A Trillion Euros Due To Sanctions
Kaja Callas

Today, the European Union froze the assets of individuals and companies that are circumventing anti-Russian sanctions.

On Thursday, October 15, the Council of the European Union adopted additional restrictive measures against three individuals and nine organizations involved in importing sanctioned goods into Russia, as well as in circumventing the bloc’s sanctions on oil and financial transactions.

This was reported by the press service of the Council of the European Union.

The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas noted that circumventing sanctions is tantamount to aiding and abetting the illegal war of aggression being waged by the Russian Federation. Therefore, today the European Union is taking additional measures against individuals and companies engaging in such activities.

“Thanks to the sanctions, Moscow has already lost more than one trillion euros, but their effectiveness could be even greater if they are fully complied with. We will continue to ensure that the continuation of the war becomes increasingly costly and difficult for Russia,” Kallas said.

The sanctions list now includes Movers Group LLC, a company engaged in the parallel importation into Russia of goods subject to EU restrictive measures. In addition, restrictions have been imposed against its CEO Dmitry Chudovsky.

The Council is also adding LLC Dt Inier and its majority shareholder, Ivanna Savchuk, to the sanctions list. This firm is a licensed Russian customs broker and a full-cycle logistics service provider. Dt Inier participates in decentralized sanctions-evasion schemes, as do other entities added to the list today: Begler Tekstil Insaat Elektronik VE DIS Ticaret LTD and Medse Group LLC.

As stated in the press release, both of these companies are trading firms based in Turkey but operating a global network.

In addition, the European Union is imposing sanctions against United Stream LLC and its founder and director, Svetlana Gumenyuk. This firm is registered in the Russian Federation and provides financial services. Specifically, it acts as a payment agent and intermediary, facilitating the import into Russia of goods from the EU that are subject to restrictive measures.

Furthermore, as stated in the press release, the Council of the European Union is taking measures to combat the circumvention of oil sanctions by imposing restrictions on companies based in the United Arab Emirates, India, and the Seychelles.

This list includes DIS Logistics DMCC, Vigor Marine Services LLP, and Shiva Shipping LTD. All of them are part of the Russian shadow fleet network. Sanctions were also imposed against Hurus Trade FZE—a trading intermediary that supplies crude oil of Russian origin to India.

The assets of the individuals and entities included on this list are frozen. In addition, the EU prohibits the direct or indirect provision of funds or economic resources to them—or for their benefit. Individuals on the list are also barred from entering the European Union.
