With more than 95% of the votes counted, Democrat J.D. Ford is ahead of her.
Republican Victoria Spartz, who voted against the aid package for Ukraine, has lost her race for the U.S. House of Representatives. With more than 95% of the votes counted, Democrat J.D. Ford is leading her.
This was reported by The Washington Post.
Spartz represented Indiana’s 5th congressional district in the House of Representatives. With more than 95% of the votes counted, Ford had about 51% and Spartz had about 48%.
Victoria Spartz (née Kulgeiko) was born in 1978 in Nosovka, Chernihiv Oblast. In 2000, she moved to the United States, married a native of Indiana, and became a U.S. citizen.
She worked in the financial sector, taught at Indiana University, and served as a state senator. In 2020, Spartz was elected to Congress as a Republican and a Trump supporter.
Spartz has repeatedly found herself at the center of scandals due to her statements regarding Ukraine. In April 2025, the congresswoman stated that Kyiv allegedly had to accept the loss of some of its territories; otherwise, it risked losing the rest as well. Her interview outraged Ukrainian authorities.
“Unlike Victoria, all of our land has always been and will always be Ukrainian,” replied Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Georgy Tikhiy at the time.
In April 2024, she did not support a package of military and financial aid to Ukraine totaling approximately $61 billion. Spartz explained her position by citing the need to strengthen control over the use of U.S. funds and to pay greater attention to U.S. border security.
Earlier, in July 2022, Spartz sent an official letter to then-U.S. President Joe Biden. In it, she called for an investigation into possible “ties” to Russia by the then-head of the Office of the President, Andriy Yermak. The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called this statement manipulative.
