In Ukraine, They've Come Up With A Plan To Make "Russia Burn Even More"

And they named the amount needed for that.

Ukraine plans to ask its allies for an additional $20 billion for weapons and the development of its defense capabilities. Officials in Kyiv believe this will help solidify their current advantage on the battlefield and prevent Russia from regaining the upper hand, according to Politico.

The request is scheduled to be officially presented on June 18 at the next meeting of the Contact Group on Ukrainian defense in the "Ramstein" format, where allies coordinate military and financial aid to Kyiv.

“Everyone can see that Russia is burning, and we want it to burn even more, but for that we need funding,” a senior Ukrainian defense official told Politico on condition of anonymity.

According to the publication, the issue of additional funding has already been raised by Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov and other representatives of the Ukrainian government during meetings with delegations from Norway, Sweden, Germany, and Canada.

As the source explained, allies will be asked to contribute between $2 billion and $6 billion each to raise the necessary amount.

“This could be aid or a loan,” the source told Politico.

Support for Ukraine is expected to be one of the key topics at the NATO summit in Ankara in July, which will be attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

According to the Ukrainian budget, defense spending in 2026 will amount to 4.4 trillion hryvnia (about 85 billion euros). An additional $20 billion is expected to be added to the already planned expenditures.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense claims that partner countries have already pledged to provide $38 billion in military aid this year. If Kyiv manages to secure another $20 billion, the total amount of support will approach the $60 billion target previously announced by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

According to Politico, the additional funds are planned to be allocated to air defense systems, the procurement of weapons under the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List program, the purchase of drones, ammunition, electronic warfare equipment, long-range systems, as well as orders placed with Ukrainian defense companies.

Kyiv expects that this will allow it to maintain the pace of strikes against Russian military and infrastructure targets. In recent months, Ukraine has been actively ramping up the production and use of drones and missile systems.

“Ukrainian unmanned systems are operating successfully at various levels: from carrying out missions on the front lines to striking key enemy targets hundreds of kilometers deep inside enemy territory,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on social media on June 11.

A source speaking to Politico emphasized that Ukraine’s current successes have been made possible in part thanks to assistance from Germany, Norway, and the Netherlands.
