Kazulin on air of NTV channel

34

Russian NTV channel, which has become a mouthpiece; of the position of Russian authorities towards Belarus recently, has televised an interview with Alyaksandr Kazulin.

An interview with the former candidate for presidency in Belarus and former political prisoner Alyaksandr Kazulin could be called an extended comment on the series of documentaries “Godbatka” dedicated to the situation in Belarus and to Alyaksandr Lukashenka personally.

Russian journalists used a video footage of disbanding opposition meetings by authorities in Belarus in 2006, of Kazulin’s getting into the Central election committee and so on. Against such a background the former presidential candidate told about the political, economic situation, arrests, opposition and its protests, the presidential fund, corruption, and finally he said that he harbours no grudge against Lukashenka, as he “would be judged by God”.

It is notable that the Russian TV channel interviewed Kazulin, not any other politician who is set to run for presidency in Belarus. In June this year Kazulin made it clear to journalists of Echo of Moscow that he has no plans to participate in the upcoming presidential elections.

The former chairman of the Supreme Council of Belarus, an old-timer of Belarusian democratic forces Stanislau Shushkevich explained invitation of Kazulin by NTV by the fact that “It is Moscow that supported him and fed him”.

“But I do not know what forces were involved in that there. In fact he acted against the single democratic candidate then (in 2006). He is a man of some Moscow forces, and they invite him. As for others, we have many lightweight contenders, and I treat them with humour. And there is nobody to invite among them. The only serious person among them is Andrei Sannikov, I believe he had expressed his position clearly enough and comprehensively. His position is well-known. And Kazulin has no one behind him. He is an individual. He will sing from music he would be offered”.

According to Shushkevich, there will be no single candidate of opposition at the presidential elections in Belarus. “This won’t happen, no matter what would be done and whatever methods would be used. Everyone who wants a single candidate, sees oneself as such a candidate firstly. And talks about a single candidate are used to get some funds, to speculate on this topic. A single candidate is not needed”.
