Drunk AdG Staff Members Got Into A Fight In The Bundestag

The police had to step in.

Two staff members of lawmakers from the “Alternative for Germany” party got into a fight in one of the Bundestag buildings in Berlin. According to Der Spiegel magazine, the altercation took place late Wednesday evening, October 14, at the Jakob-Kaiser-Haus, where many lawmakers have their offices.

The altercation was so serious that parliamentary police had to be called. At around 12:20 a.m. Minsk time, officers intervened and broke up the fight. According to media reports, both men showed signs of intoxication, BILD reports.

The parliamentary police have launched an investigation into both men. The circumstances and cause of the conflict have not yet been disclosed. A spokesperson for the AfD parliamentary group told Der Spiegel that the group’s leadership is unaware of the incident.

Meanwhile, in North Rhine-Westphalia, two AfD politicians are set to settle their differences in a traditional student rapier duel. Matthias Büschges from Cologne and Jeremy Franoch from Düsseldorf got into an argument at a party event where, according to media reports, there was plenty of alcohol. After the altercation, they agreed to meet for a so-called “Menzur”—a duel in which participants wear protective gear, but their faces and part of their heads remain vulnerable to blows.

Both politicians deny that they intend to continue their political conflict in this way and describe the duel as a personal matter.
