On Tuesday, October 27, Turkish police detained 85 people in 30 provinces across the country during raids targeting the Istanbul-based criminal group known as the Daltonlar.
The group is suspected of involvement in the arson attack on a Starlink ground station in Poland, according to Turkish Minute.
Among those detained are 35 minors. According to investigators, the group recruited people through social media, added them to WhatsApp groups, and assigned them tasks to carry out attacks there. Investigators believe that some of those detained were preparing new attacks.
A Starlink station in the village of Wola Krobowska, south of Warsaw, was set on fire on September 23. The fire damaged the power supply system and the generator, but no one was injured, and the station subsequently resumed operations. Polish Minister-Coordinator of Special Services Tomasz Semoniak accused Russian intelligence of the arson. The Ukrainian army uses Starlink for communications and to coordinate combat operations.
On October 12, in Nürtingen, Germany, two Turkish citizens aged 34 and 38 were detained pursuant to European arrest warrants and at Poland’s request. A German court remanded them in custody pending their extradition to Poland, where they face charges of sabotage and working for a foreign intelligence service. The publication *Der Spiegel* and the ARD broadcasting company had previously reported on these individuals’ alleged ties to the “Daltonlar” group.
Turkish investigators are convinced that the group is directed from Russia. Its alleged leader, Beratjan Gökdemir, known as Jan Dalton, is wanted internationally by Interpol. In 2024, he was detained in Russia but, despite requests from Turkey, was never extradited.
