The Ukrainian Armed Forces Struck Four Bridges Connecting The Kherson Region And Crimea At Once

New details have emerged about the nighttime attack.

On the night of June 11, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) carried out strikes on four bridges connecting the Kherson region with Crimea, according to The Moscow Times.

“According to preliminary information, there is damage. Experts are conducting an inspection and assessing the condition of the structures,” said the Russian-appointed “governor” of the occupied Kherson region Vladimir Saldo. He specified that the crossing over the North Crimean Canal in the area of Preobrazhenka and Mirny, the road bridge on the Perekop–Armiansk route, and the bridge near the village of Stavki were hit.

According to Saldo, Russian air defense systems shot down a total of 45 Ukrainian drones over the occupied part of the Kherson region overnight. “The enemy is attempting to concentrate its strikes on the region’s transport infrastructure,” he noted, promising to provide an update later on when traffic would resume on the damaged bridges. The day before, the Ukrainian Armed Forces struck the crossing connecting Henichesk with the Arbatskaya Spit in Crimea. On June 9, the Ukrainian army attacked the bridge in Chongar, after which traffic across it was halted. Two days earlier, this bridge had also come under Ukrainian attack.

In May, the Ukrainian Armed Forces intensified strikes on Russian logistics in the occupied territories. By the end of the month, Ukrainian drones had effectively taken control of the R-280 “Novorossiya” federal highway—the “land corridor” to Crimea running from Rostov-on-Don through Mariupol and Melitopol. According to estimates by OSINT analyst Clément Molin, approximately 125 trucks were hit on the highway during the four weeks of May.

On June 1, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the Ukrainian Armed Forces now have the ability to “strike Russian military logistics in virtually all temporarily occupied territories.” According to him, first and foremost, “this is reflected in fuel shortages in Crimea and other occupied regions.”

Against this backdrop, a fuel crisis began in Crimea. The Russian-appointed authorities have imposed limits on gasoline sales—no more than 20 liters per person—as well as a ration card system. However, the situation continued to deteriorate. As a result, on June 4, the free sale of gasoline for cash was completely suspended in Crimea.
